The West Kendall Regional Library first opened its doors December 10, 1990. Less than two years later, Hurricane Andrew destroyed the branch. The 39,000 square-foot library reopened March 11, 1994, with over 2,000 grateful patrons attending the celebration. The branch now circulates over 60,000 items monthly to a diverse population, including many families. Special features include a large auditorium for programs and special events, computers with Microsoft Word for typing reports and resumes, fifty-four computers to access the library systems catalog and database collection including access to Internet. The library is conveniently located in the Hammocks Town Shopping Center.
