PATRONS CAN NOW GET INFORMATION ABOUT THEIR LIBRARY ACCOUNT TEXTED TO THEIR CELL PHONES
In its continuing efforts to go green, the Miami-Dade Public Library System has added a new feature to its online catalog and notification system that allows users to receive a text message directly to their cell phone. Patrons, who opt for this service, will incur the standard texting carrier charges that apply from their service providers.
Patrons can also choose to be notified via text messaging when requested items are available for pickup or when items they have checked out become overdue. To change the notification method, patrons simply login to their account online, access their profile and select “Text Message” as the notification method.
Instead of using paper and pencil, patrons can now conveniently text an item’s call number directly to their cell phone by clicking on the new cell phone icon that appears next to the call numbers in the online catalog.
How to be notified you when a title you are waiting for comes in or when you have an overdue item:
Users can choose to receive their library notifications through the U.S. mail, via e-mail or through text messages. To select one of these options, a user must login into My Account in the online catalog, click on the Profile tab and scroll down to the section reading “Email information.” To receive notifications by e-mail, select the “by e-mail” option and enter a valid e-mail address. To receive notifications as text messages, select the option reading “Text Message,” enter a valid cell phone number and select your carrier from the drop-down list of carriers. To receive printed notifications through the U.S. mail, select the third option reading “Please do not send me emails or text messages.”
