LIBRARY SYSTEM TO HOLD GROUNDBREAKING FOR FUTURE ARCOLA LAKES BRANCH
(Miami-Dade, July 17, 2009) – The community is invited to join Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez and Commissioner Dorrin D. Rolle on Friday, July 24, 10 a.m., for a groundbreaking ceremony for the future Arcola Lakes Branch Library, 8240 N.W. 7th Avenue, Miami. The library will occupy two acres of a 9.25 acre parcel that will also house a Miami-Dade Police Station and a Community Action Agency Headstart facility.
The 9,670-square-foot branch is budgeted at a construction cost of $2.3 million and is expected to be completed by the summer of 2011. The building’s design will incorporate an abundance of green spaces and natural lighting, and will offer designated areas for young adults and children. Special shelving units in these areas will allow for re-configuration to accommodate large groups, while maintaining a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Under the Library System’s Capital Plan, 10 storefront facilities have opened in area shopping centers and six newly constructed branches have also opened in Golden Glades, International Mall, Elizabeth Virrick Park (Coconut Grove), Kendale Lakes, Pinecrest, and Naranja. A new branch in Palmetto Bay is expected to open this fall, and the new Hispanic Branch in Little Havana is slated to open in early 2010.
