This free event will feature a variety of activities including a juggling show, Wii gaming for seniors, face painting, arts and crafts, storytelling, Dance Dance Revolution for teens, giveaways from WEDR 99 Jamz, and a whole lot more.
The North Dade Regional Library was officially opened on September 14, 1979, and at 50,000 square feet, it offers a collection of over 150,000 materials, 100 public computers with free Internet access, and a variety of entertainment, educational and academic resources. The library is home to the Schomburg collection, a series of clipping files and index of magazines, pamphlets, manuscripts, personal papers, newspaper clippings, Playbills, sheet music, programs, and photographs focused on African American history, civilization, arts, and culture dating back to 1924. The library also offers a wealth of programs for literacy and cultural enrichment, including computer workshops, job search assistance, book discussion groups, art exhibitions, chess and music clubs, teen theatre, and toddler story time.
“Besides its wealth of resources, the North Dade Regional Library also serves as a central gathering place where members of the community can come together to socialize or to discuss issues that are important to them,” says Library Director Raymond Santiago. “It serves as a polling place for presidential and local elections and has hosted some of the most noted authors, and scholars of African American and Caribbean history. The library has a dedicated staff that is in tune, and involved with almost everything that touches the community.”
The North Dade Regional Library is open Monday - Thursday, 9:30 a.m. - 9 p.m. Friday, Saturday, 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m., and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m.
