MIAMI-DADE PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM PRESENTS PEDESTRIANS:DOWNTOWN FLAGLER STREET AN EXIBIT OF PHOTOGRAPHS BY DAVID SPITZER
The Miami-Dade Public Library System presents Pedestrians: Downtown Flagler Street by David Spitzer an exhibition of photographs currently running through March 9, 2011 in the auditorium of the Main Library - 101 W. Flagler Street.
The photographs were taken during the last half of 1984 and well into 1985 (the year the Main Library opened). The project focuses narrowly on downtown Flagler Street from Biscayne Boulevard west to the old Dade County Courthouse - the historic center of downtown Miami. The photographs capture the ordinary and diverse cross-section of individuals going about their daily lives. Over two decades after the film negatives were taken Spitzer revisited the negative strips and critiqued hundreds of frames with a fresh and more mature aesthetic vision. Consequently, the current version of Pedestrians has been digitally “fine tuned” and several of these have been printed and presented for the first time. They are offered as frozen interpretations of the past of those who strolled or scurried through the streets of downtown Flagler Street.
About the artist

His passion for photography and music has produced a vast collection of photographic negative and print archive of jazz and blues musicians taken mostly during musical performances. Spitzer is currently working on his on-going series, titled “Reflections;” a series of digital photographs of store-front windows throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.
