MIAMI-DADE PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM TO HOLD GRAND RE-OPENING FOR SHENANDOAH BRANCH
The community is invited to join Commissioner Bruno Barreiro on Wednesday, February 23, at 6:30 p.m. for a re-opening of the Shenandoah Branch Library at 2111 SW 19 Street in Miami. Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, there will be an unveiling of Know Your Neighborhood: Explore Shenandoah Digital Photographer, a collection of images taken by students from Shenandoah Middle School Museums Magnet Program.
The Shenandoah Branch underwent a $1.5M renovation to the interior and exterior. The 50-year-old facility now boasts a new main entrance that features outside seating and a plaza-style feel which offers patrons the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and free WiFi with their personal laptops. The branch also provides 16 PCs and 20 laptops to provide access to the Internet as well as the library’s large assortment of digital resources. The interior includes an open floor plan with improved lighting, new furniture, new fixtures and ADA modifications. The branch is also equipped with a Reading Ready Early Literacy Center and contains interactive play-to-learn resources as well as designated areas for teens and adults.
The library offers a vast collection of books, computers, magazines, CDs and DVDs as well as classes on financial assistance, job-hunting and resume-writing. Adult’s, teen’s and children’s programs are also available.
The library is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9:30 am – 6 pm; Tuesday from 11:30 am – 8 pm and is closed Friday and Sunday. For more information, call (305) 250-4688.
