Miami-Dade Public Library System

(MIAMI, OCTOBER 4, 2011) On Monday, October 3, 2011, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jean Monestime and Miami-Dade Public Library System Director Raymond Santiago kicked-off the grand opening celebration of the new Arcola Lakes Branch Library located at 8240 NW 7 Ave. Joining in the celebration were Miami-Dade Public School System Board Member Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall, Alina T. Hudak, Miami-Dade County Deputy Mayor/County Manager, Russell Benford ,Miami-Dade County Deputy Mayor, Lisa Martinez, Senior Advisor to Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez, Wendy Norris, Director, Miami-Dade County General Services Administration, members of the Arcola and Northshore Community Associations, area residents, and  library and county staff.

The 9,670-square-foot branch occupies two acres of a 9.25 acre parcel that will also house a Miami-Dade Police Sub-station and a Community Action Agency Headstart facility. The branch offers more than 16,000 books and materials, 12 computer terminals, 30 laptops with free WiFi, and Express Self-Checkout machines. Patrons can also use their laptops, with free Wi-Fi, inside the library and around the perimeter of the building. Residents can look forward to a diverse selection of cultural and educational programs and services.

Arcola Lakes is the last library to be constructed under the library system’s 2001 Capital Expansion Plan, which made possible the opening of 10 storefront libraries in area shopping centers and the construction of eight new libraries: Golden Glades, International Mall, Virrick Park, Kendale Lakes, Pinecrest, Naranja, Palmetto Bay and Arcola Lakes.

The branch is open Monday, Tuesday and Saturday from 10 a.m. -6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday noon-8 p.m., and closed on Friday and Sunday.
