Local actress helps celebrate Teen Read Week

In celebration of Teen Read Week, the Miami-Dade Public Library System welcomes actress, singer and model Ana Villafañe to the Coral Gables Branch Library on Wednesday, October 19, 4 p.m.  View clips from some of Villafañe’s movies and hear her story about how she made it into show business and why reading is important for success. Teens are also invited to join in the Teen Read Week celebration by sharing a favorite poem, song, short story or excerpt from a book. 

Originally from Miami, Villafañe began acting in musicals at the Actor’s Playhouse in Coral Gables when she was just nine years old. She went on to do numerous fashion shows and commercials. Following graduation from high school, she signed with Dolphin Entertainment. Some of her film credits include the Bollywood hit Dostana Magic City Memoirs; Los Americans, a web-series; and the independent film Adam and Abby. In early 2011, she was back on stage as Mimi Marquez in the acclaimed Hollywood production of the musical RENT. Most recently, Ana played the lead in the independent feature Hiding.  When not working, Ana studies music at Loyola Marymount University with an applied emphasis on vocal performance.

Teen Read Week is an initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) that encourages teens to read just for the fun of it. Activities continue through Saturday, October 22. Ms. Villafañe’s appearance is made possible by Dolphin Entertainment.
