ANIMAL SERVICES DOG SWEATER DRIVE

-Donate a dog sweater to help keep shelter dogs warm this winter!-

(MIAMI, NOVEMBER 14, 2011) – Beginning, November 15, through December 15, 2011, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez, the Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department (ASD) in coordination with the Miami-Dade County Public Library System (MDPLS), will be hosting a sweater drive for shelter dogs. In preparation for dropping temperatures and the upcoming winter season, ASD is seeking donations of sweaters to keep shelter dogs warm and comfortable. Sweatshirts may also be donated and are needed in children’s small to adult extra-large sizes.

“Keeping our pets safe and healthy at the shelter is a top priority.  These contributions will assist us in ensuring that our shelter pets are kept warm during the winter months,” said Miami-Dade Animal Services Department Director Alex Muñoz.

Miami-Dade Animal Services is responsible for enforcing Chapter 5 of the Miami-Dade County Code, as well as Florida Statutes 828.12, which deals primarily with animal cruelty issues. Unlike private shelters that have limitations on the number of pets they accept, Animal Services accepts all dogs and cats. Each year, the shelter receives between 30,000 to 36,000 pets. The goal of Animal Services is to reunite lost pets with their families or find life-long homes for as many animals as possible. Related links: www.miamidade.gov/animals or call 311.
