MAKE A VISIT TO THE LIBRARY PART OF YOUR SUMMER PLANS!

– Magic, music and more at a branch near you!

(MIAMI, JUNE 15, 2012) – This summer get out of the heat and into your nearest branch library!  Everyone is invited to take part in the summer reading program now through July 21 where there’s a chance to win a special grand prize. The program is divided into three categories: Dream Big READ! for children 0-12; Own the Night, for teens 13-18; and Between the Covers, for adults 18 and older.  To receive an entry ticket for the Grand Prize drawing, children and teens are encouraged to read two or more hours each week. A grand prize drawing will be held at the end of the program and prizes include: a Miami Dolphins VIP Training Day or Game Day Experience; Miami Dolphins Memorabilia; Miami Seaquarium Dolphin Encounter and admission tickets; gift cards, among many others. For adults, the weekly challenge is to discover new ways to enjoy the library from downloading books or movies to enjoying an audio book. Prizes include a Kindle Fire and gift certificates to Home Depot, Publix or Chili’s restaurant for $100.

There’s also an exciting line-up of free special programs. The Fantasy Theater Factory presents Gordon Gumshoe, a fairytale detective, who navigates the caper of a lifetime! Help solve the mystery on Tuesday, June 19, 3 p.m. at the South Miami Branch, on Wednesday, June 20, 3 p.m. at the Kendale Lakes Branch and on Saturday, June 30, 3 p.m. at the Lakes of the Meadow Branch. For adults, meet the author of Shadow Cay, Leona DeRosa Bodie, on Saturday, June 23, 11:30 a.m. at the Pinecrest Branch and at 3 p.m. at the Miami Lakes Branch.  Kids will laugh out loud with Storybook of Dreams by Ninth Period Shows who use comedy, magic and music to tell popular children stories. Performances are on Wednesday, June 27, 10:30 a.m. at the Lemon City Branch and on Saturday, June 30, 3 p.m. at the Coral Reef Branch.  Be dazzled by magician Gary Midnight on Wednesday, June 27, 11 a.m. at the Culmer/Overtown Branch and on Saturday, June 30, 11 a.m. at the Homestead Branch and 3 p.m. at the Miami Lakes Branch.
