This year’s contest allows children and teens ages 5‑18 to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in a creative and fun way by dressing up in a folkloric costume.

Contest Entry Rules

  1. Contestants must be 5-18 years of age and hold a Miami‑Dade Public Library System (MDPLS) library card. Those ages 17 and under must have a parent or guardian’s permission to participate.
  2. Participants shall select a Hispanic or Latin American country of their choice and dress up in the traditional attire of that country.
While elements of the costume can be store bought, it should not be a completely ready‑made costume.
  3. Entries must be submitted in one of the following ways:
    1. An entry form may be returned at any MDPLS branch along with two 4x6 prints of the participant in costume. The picture must be a full body shot (head to toe) and must have been taken in September 2017.
    2. The entry may be submitted via email. Digital photographs must be no larger than 2MB in JPEG format and uploaded to a file sharing service like Windows Live Spaces or Google Drive. The link to the photograph file must be sent to contest@mdpls.org by midnight Saturday, September 30, 2017. The email must include the participant’s name, address, phone number, age, email, branch, and the name of the country being represented. It must also include the following language for electronic certification: "I certify that the photograph submitted is mine/my child’s and is completely original. I grant the Miami‑Dade Public Library System (MDPLS) permission to use my/my child’s name, creative work and visual image in its publications without recourse. I understand that my/my child’s photograph will not be returned."
  4. Winners will be notified by Saturday, October 14, 2017.
  5. All entries become the property of MDPLS and will not be returned.
