Reading Ready Storytime at the Library   Reading Ready Storytimes offer parents and caregivers a fun way to learn how they can prepare their children to learn to read. Using stories, songs and movement, library staff demonstrate various techniques to encourage early literacy skill development. Library materials are also made available to continue this literacy experience at home.   Birth to 18 months       Stories with songs, fingerplays and puppets Increases vocabulary and promotes conversation Develops imagination and improves concentration A sharing time with your baby           19 months to 3 years       Interactive stories with songs, rhyme, letters, names and movement Relates stories to your child’s own environment Increases interest in letters and words Make reading together fun and exciting           3 to 5 years       Engaging books, songs and activities Encourages your child to imagine and share their own stories Introduces concepts such as time, opposites, and sequence of events Stories about going to school and making friends prepare them for kindergarten
