Started by high school student Jennifer Barlow in 2003, Dark Sky Week is now observed worldwide during the week of the new moon in April, which is the time when the night sky is at its darkest. This year, Dark Sky Week will begin on April 2 to end on the day of Great North American Total Solar Eclipse on Monday, April 8.
