Fines & Fees

We are a fine-free library system! Cardholders don’t have to worry about late fees, but will be charged for unreturned, lost or damaged items.

Miami-Dade Public Library System materials can be checked out for free with a valid library card card. We do not charge overdue fines for items returned past their due date. You will receive an invoice for the full cost of any item that is not returned within 10 days of its due date. Cardholders will also be charged for materials that are lost, damaged or returned incomplete.

In order to renew your library card, your account must have a balance of less than $20. If your account has a balance of more than $20, you may temporarily lose borrowing privileges until the materials are returned and/or the fines/fees are paid.

Making Payments on Your Account

Payments can be made in person at your nearest branch library, by mail or online. If making a payment in person with a personal check, a valid driver's license or identification card must be presented.

If you are mailing a payment please make check payable to Miami‑Dade Public Library System.
Remember to include your 14‑digit library card number on the check.
