This Poinciana Symposium includes information about the history of the Royal Poinciana in South Florida; its use by early settlers and today; and its celebration. Now in its 87th edition, the annual Royal Poinciana Fiesta is South Florida's oldest, continuing festival. Mr. Pearson will also discuss the origin of the Poinciana; its botanical and horticultural aspects; and the inspiration it has provided in art, music and poetry. This program is presented in conjunction with the 2024 Royal Poinciana Fiesta, now sponsored by the Tropical Flowering Tree Society. Free Poinciana seedlings will be available (while supplies last), including some from yellow flowering Poinciana trees.
