Cathy Coachman Wanza is a lifetime Miamian who grew up in the area we now know as Miami Gardens. She is a proud graduate of Miami Carol City Sr. High School, Bethune-Cookman College, and Florida International University.
Ms. Coachman Wanza retired from her career as an educator after 38 years of service to Miami-Dade Public Schools. Most of those years was spent at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School as an English teacher.
A lifelong Christian, Ms. Coachman Wanza is a member of Elevate Church of Miami Lakes. She is also a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, having achieved Crystal Dove status after her 50th year of membership. She is also a member of the Keep Miami Gardens Beautiful Advisory Board, representing the area for Seat 3.
She has been married to William Wanza for 46 years, and they are the parents of a daughter and son, Nyere Wanza-Hicks and Nigel Wanza. She is a grandmother of six, ranging in age from 23 to 7.
Ms. Coachman Wanza enjoys traveling and has visited most of the islands in the Caribbean, two other continents, and a majority of the United States. Only thirteen more to go ‘til she makes all fifty. While streaming is an option, she enjoys the big-screen experience of going to the movies.
At 70, Ms. Coachman Wanza is enjoying this new chapter of her life that her book, Intimate Verses, has opened for her.
