The Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Vision Impaired fine arts program has continued to grow and flourish the past several years under the leadership of the amazing inclusive CEO Virginia Jacko. Some acquired works of art are displayed at: Mayor of Miami’s office, Lobby of Miami Dade Animal Services in Doral, Office of the President of the American Printing House m, Executive Offices of Pollo Tropical and homes of prominent socialites. These textured base pieces are welcome to be touched lightly as well as be seen, proving “It’s Possible to See Without Sight” as is the theme of this exhibition. This series is the conceptual vision of Supervisor of Fine Arts and Art Education instructor Aaron Hill who teaches both adults of the Miami Lighthouse and children of the Lighthouse Academy. Art instructor Jose Gonzalez and Program director Daliany Camacho also give their artistic input. Through art creation and social activity, each painting evolves through a several month process, that help in socialization and artistic development through community involvement of the vision impaired. Each painting involves 5- 15 art students working together in this process of creation. Miami Lighthouse for the Blind helps many blind and vision impaired people throughout its 95 years of existence in all areas of life and rehabilitation such as mobility training, job training, education and social activities from birth throughout the entire life. Blind people can do anything a sighted person can do, they just might have to find a different way to do it. Giving the utmost confidence to believe “It’s Possible to Create Art Without Sight”.
The Multi-Sensory POP-UP Art Experience, "It's Possible to See Without Sight" is a product of the enduring collaboration between the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and the Miami-Dade Public Library System's Talking Books Library.
