Biography
Mirta Ojito is a journalist, professor and author of two non-fiction books and the USA Today bestselling novel, Deeper than the Ocean, published last November. She is the recipient of an Emmy for the documentary Harvest of Misery as well as a shared Pulitzer for national reporting in 2001, for a series of New York Times articles on race. A refugee from Cuba, her work at The Miami Herald, The New York Times, and the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University has explored the complexities of identity, belonging, and the quiet power of resilience. Currently, she is a senior director of News Standards at NBC/Telemundo.
