About the Exhibition

These striking images unveil a multitude of layers, showcasing the interplay of countless graffiti artists, event posters, witty and impassioned phrases, absurd statements, juxtaposed photographs, radical ideas, and vibrant splashes of color from spray cans. The exposed nature of public spaces renders these surfaces susceptible to the elements, causing them to weather, fade, buckle, tear, and fragment, resulting in incredibly textured and tactile compositions that beg to be explored even by touch. David Spitzer, an acclaimed Miami-based photographer, rises to the challenge of capturing dissimilar and seemingly discordant visuals that defy traditional notions of exemplary design. His quest has led him to the vibrant streets of Toronto's Old King Street, the pre-gentrification Soho in Lower Manhattan, and the urban landscapes of Melbourne, Australia, where he meticulously documented the thriving graffiti and street art scenes.

With a rich artistic background that includes numerous solo and collaborative exhibitions, as well as publications in books, periodicals, and album covers, Spitzer's dedication to his craft is evident. Formerly a Professor in the Art & Philosophy Department at Miami-Dade College, he now devotes his time to his photographic pursuits, exploring new horizons in digital and color imagery. His ever-expanding repertoire encompasses various architectural and sculptural periods, captivating reflections, legendary Jazz and Blues musicians, and captivating glimpses of nature discovered during his travels across the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia.

Submerge yourself in the expressive world of David Spitzer's prints, which have graced the walls of prestigious institutions such as the Art Gallery of Ontario, Midwest Museum of American Art, Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, San Jose Museum of Art, and The New York Public Library-Lincoln Center, as well as numerous esteemed college and university venues.
