About the Exhibit:
Weinberg's illustrative technique creates the foundation of this collaboration. She uses trace and transfer methods with graphite and carbon on folded Japanese mulberry paper. The imagery is transferred from one page to another, creating halftones that resemble printing or engraving.
Duhamel's poetic words speak to Weinberg’s drawings like banners or subtitles, using patterns, mantras, and echoes to illustrate visual rhythm in the drawing scenes. Many pieces depict traditional East Asian scroll paintings, as well as ‘60s and ‘70s Americana cartoons.
Previously exhibited at Berl's Poetry Shop in Brooklyn, New Yor,k from December 2019 through February 2020, Double Trouble reveals a symbiotic relationship between artist, writer, and their fluid boundaries. In some instances, Duhamel's words are inspired by Weinberg’s imagery. While in other artworks, Weinberg's drawings respond to Duhamel’s expressive words.
Weinberg and Duhamel have also collaborated on various projects, such as the Word Image Lab (WAIL) book projects, Extra Virgin Press' Home/s: project, and book covers for two of Duhamel's books, BlowOut and The UnRhymables.
