Read for fun and win prizes this summer by signing up for our Summer Reading Challenge! Every 30 minutes of reading or listening to a book gets you an entry into the prize drawing at the end of the challenge. Attending library programs and events earns you even more chances to win a great prize!
The Summer Reading Challenge is a great way for participants of all ages to read, learn and engage with their library and community. And a bonus for students: reading helps prevent the “summer slide,” the loss of knowledge and academic gains made during the previous school year – giving them a head start as they enter the next grade.

Celebrate Smokey Bear's 80th birthday – and earn even more chances to win a great prize at the end of the summer – by joining Smokey Bear's Reading Challenge!
To get started, download the Smokey Bear Reading Challenge Log by clicking the button below. Participants can earn one (1) additional prize drawing entry by completing any of the following activities:
- Complete the Smokey Bear Pledge
- Learn about Smokey's history by reading the Story of Smokey on smokeybear.com
- Complete an activity on the log
Once you've completed an activity, be sure to enter it on your online activity log. And remember... only you can prevent forest fires!
Billy The Marlin's Summer Reading Challenge
Pick up a "Billy The Marlin’s Summer Reading Challenge Field Card" at any Miami-Dade Public Library System location to earn two tickets to a select 2024 Marlins home game. Complete special challenges and read your way around the bases!
- All Miami-Dade Public Library System (MDPLS) cardholders are eligible to participate.
If you don’t have a card, you can register for an eCard online at www.mdpls.org/library-card or sign up for a physical card at any library location.
- To participate in the Summer Reading Challenge, sign up online and submit reading and activity logs through the online portal by visiting www.mdpls.org/2024SummerReading. Call or visit any MDPLS library location if you need registration assistance.
- Parents or legal guardians may create a family account and submit a reading and activity log on behalf of their children.
- Every 30-minute increment of reading time recorded in the online portal earns one entry into the prize drawing. Books, eBooks, magazines, audiobooks, reading out loud together as a group – all reading counts!
- Participation in online or in-person library programs, Homework Help & Tutoring sessions or MDPLS Adult Learning Academy classes qualify for additional entries into the prize drawing. Participants will receive one additional entry per event attended and reported in the online portal.

The downloadable reading and activity log is available to help keep track of reading progress. Only reading/activities submitted through the online portal qualify for a prize entry. If you need assistance entering your submissions, please visit any MDPLS library location.
- Participants may submit and/or update their reading and activity log in the online portal beginning Saturday, June 1 through Monday, August 12, 2024.
- All electronic entries received in the online portal by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, August 12, 2024, will be entered in the prize drawing.
- The prize drawing will be held the week of August 19. Winners will be notified by Friday, August 30, 2024.
- Employees of the Miami-Dade Public Library System are ineligible to participate in the prize drawing.
