Getting creative with the Digital Collections

The thousands of pieces of artwork in the Library’s Digital Collections are an amazing resource for inspiration, education and entertainment. Images from the online database can also be downloaded and incorporated into social media posts, digital artwork and more for free!

Click here for images from the Permanent Art Collection, which holds over 6,000 works of art including works on paper, photographs, paintings, artists' books, multiples and small sculptures, with a focus on African American, Latino, and Miami artists.

The Library’s Digital Collections is responsible for digitizing all the materials in the Permanent Art Collection in collaboration with the Art Services Department. Digitizing artwork is one of the most challenging projects the Library undertakes due to the diverse nature of the collections’ materials including canvases, lithographs, photographs, sculptures and installations. We scan them when possible, but most of the time we photograph the artwork and upload it to the website to make it conveniently accessible to the public.

Currently, there are 12 digital art collections from the Permanent Art Collection on the Library website and more content is available on the Digital Collections page including the Gleason Waite Romer PhotographsAgnew Welsh Scrapbooks, memorabilia from the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of FloridaCuban Memorabilia and more!
