Join professional genealogist Michelle Taylor for an informative discussion on the most effective tools for locating your African American ancestors, including free resources to solve difficult cases such as brick walls, adoptions and non-parental events. She will also provide an overview of four of the most popular DNA tests used for genetic genealogy: AncestryDNA, MyHeritage, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe. Learn how these tools can help pinpoint your ancestral origins, connect you with new relatives and uncover your family's stories.
About the Presenter
Michelle Taylor is a professional genealogist based in Washington, D.C. Specializing in African American genealogy, she integrates innovative research methods into her scholarly work. Ms. Taylor holds a B.S. in Anthropology, a B.A. in Foreign Languages and an M.A. in Public Anthropology. She is currently a first-year Ph.D. student at American University in Washington, D.C. Miami-Dade Public Library System's Division of Special Collections & Archives holds rare and irreplaceable historical materials for the benefit of the public and scholarly community. They oversee the Helen Muir Florida Collection, 16mm Film Collection, Cuban Collection of Rare Books & Ephemera, Genealogy Collection, Vasari Project archive, and Rare & Antiquarian books from as early as the 17th century. The Division's primary goal is to provide the public with the contents of the vault at their request. Its collections include rare books, original manuscripts, over 18,000 photographs, prints, artifacts, audiovisual resources, and electronic media.
