Join us for a discussion with author Dr. Bambi Lobdell as she discusses her book, "A Strange Sort of Being: The Transgender Life of Lucy Ann/Joseph Israel Lobdell, 1829-1912." As a scholar and descendant of Lucy/Joseph's, Dr. Lobdell offers a unique perspective on the first documented transgender case in the United States. Space is limited for this online event. Dr. Lobdell received her PhD in English from Binghamton University and focused her graduate research on a 19th century ancestor, Lucy Ann/Joseph Israel Lobdell, who was assigned female [At birth] but lived as a man. She taught at SUNY Oneonta for over 21 years and developed many classes for the Women’s and Gender Studies departments. Dr. Lobdell has presented on Lucy/Joe at numerous conferences and has been interviewed by The Advocate magazine, Philadelphia Gay News, and The Washington Post.
