Author Brad Bertelli explores the life of Dr. Henry Perrine and his connection to Indian Key after moving there while recovering from arsenic poisoning. He abandoned the medical profession and pursued a career in horticulture until his life tragically ended during the second escalation of the Seminole War. Join us in person or online via Zoom! About the Presenters
Brad Bertelli, a native of Southern California, moved to Florida in 1989 and into the Florida Keys in 2001. He is an Honorary Conch, Florida Keys historian, speaker, and writer. Brad has worked as a museum curator and written several books about the Florida Keys, the local history, and Florida’s favorite cryptid, the Skunk Ape. His history column appears weekly in The Keys Weekly newspaper. The Miami Pioneers is Dade County's legacy historical organization, originally founded in 1936 by prominent settlers and business leaders who arrived in Miami in the pioneer era before the year 1900. The Natives of Dade was incorporated in 1986 by a group of local history enthusiasts born in Dade County. The groups merged on July 8, 2002.
