Miami-Dade Public Library System's Poe-Tree
In collaboration with O, Miami
Friday, April 26
All day
April is Poetry Month and we're inviting you to help us celebrate! Visit the Library throughout the month to contribute your poem and help decorate our community Poe-Tree, then remember to join us on April 30 as we unveil the final creation. You may also submit your poems by email to programs@mdpls.org. All ages are welcome for this family-friendly event presented in collaboration with O, Miami. For more information please contact the branch at recordr@mdpls.org or 305-261-1571.
The inspiration behind the Poe-Tree is Tanabata, the Japanese star festival, where wishes are traditionally hung from bamboo trees. Participants would do the same with the Poe-Tree, tying their poetry to the limbs our tree. You can visit the Fairlawn Branch Library or submit poems via programs@mdpls.org and see your poems connecting with others as a part of Miami’s Poe-Tree. This project serves as a metaphor for poetry's capacity to foster growth since it presents the works of Miami poets in harmony with one another, much like a tree grows in a forest or in a busy city like Miami.
