About the Presenter
Adrienne Fikes, M.Ed, is at least a seventh generation Virginian, with deep roots in North Carolina. Ms Fikes is a TEDx speaker, and founder of the 16Greats.com Project. Ms. Fikes developed the Joy, Genealogy & Justice Framework as published in the American Association of State and Local History History News. Ms. Fikes was selected by the Board for Certification of Genealogists as a 2023 Paul Edward Sluby Sr. Scholar and inducted in 2021 to the Sons and Daughters of the United States Middle Passage. Ms Fikes has delivered presentations on mental health consideration of family history research at RootsTech, William & Mary Lemon Project Symposium, the Descendants of Enslaved Communities at University of Virginia Symposium, the Association of Black Psychologists, the American Psychiatric Association Foundation, and the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture Robert F. Smith Explore Your Family History Center. She serves on the board of the Friends of Virginia’s Central State Hospital as the descendant liaison, and is the VP of Membership and Chapters for the Afro American Historical and Genealogical Society (AAHGS). Ms Fikes is an active member of the North Carolina Triangle Region and James Dent Walker DC Chapters of AAHGS.
