STEAM Works - Ocean Style

Join us at the library or online via Zoom this summer for fun, ocean-themed STEAM activities. Experiment to see what objects sink or swim, learn about the different layers of the ocean and make your own ocean slime. Space is limited. Registration is required. For online event, a Zoom link will be emailed to registrants within 24 hours of the event start time. Ages 8 - 12 yrs.
If joining from home, you will need the materials listed below:
Sink or Swim? (June 17)
- Baking soda
- Different small objects (e.g. coins, small toys, grapes, raisins)
- 5 clear cups full of water
- Salt
- Sugar
Ocean Layers Activity (July 15)
- Large glass jar 30 oz. or bigger (mason jars work well)
- Vegetable oil
- Dishwashing soap
- Light corn syrup
- Water
- Rubbing alcohol
- Black, blue and dark blue food coloring
- 5 paper cups
- 5 plastic spoons
Ocean Slime (July 29)
- 1 (6 oz.) bottle clear glue
- About ¼ cup warm water
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon contact lens solution (containing boric acid)
- Blue food coloring
- Silver glitter
