The Consulate of Colombia in Miami and La Casa de la Colombianidad NGO present a film that emerges straight from Colombia’s vibrant streets. In an unfiltered and deeply realistic style, Colombian director Óscar Hincapié set out to portray the lives of the real residents of Petecuy, a shanty town in Cali, Colombia. By casting the community’s own inhabitants as actors in his debut feature film, Hincapié crafted an authentic, bold, and raw cinematic statement.
A remarkable twist in this heart-stopping thriller—produced over the course of eight years—is the director’s decision to include professional Colombian actors to play filmmakers within the story, performing side by side with the neighborhood’s residents.
Throughout production, Hincapié and his team faced numerous real-life challenges, including the tragic death of the film’s main real-life protagonist due to the ongoing violence in the area.
