A babka is a sweet braided bread or cake which originated in the Jewish communities of Poland and Ukraine. Its rich, buttery, brioche-like crumb, woven with ribbons of chocolate or cinnamon is unfussy and approachable. You can eat it as dessert or breakfast, as a brunch side or a quick snack. Babka Ingredients and Utensils

Ingredients for dough:

• 1 tablespoon dry yeast 
• 1 1/3 cup warm water
• 1/2 cup sugar
• 2 teaspoons salt
• 1/3 cup oil
• 4 cups flour

Choose 1 or both filling options:

Chocolate Filling:

• 1/2 cup cocoa
• 1/2 cup sugar
• 1/4 cup oil
• 1 tablespoon water
• Mix filling ingredients in bowl and spread over dough

Cinnamon Filling:

• 1 cup dark brown sugar
• 1/4 cup all purpose flour
• 3 tsp ground cinnamon
• 1/2 tsp kosher salt
• 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted or canola oil
• 1/2 cup (57g) diced pecans or walnuts (optional)

Streusel:

• 1 egg white
• 1/2 cup flour
• 1/2 cup sugar
• 2 tablespoon oil

Utensils:

• 1 medium Bowl
• 2 smaller bowls
• Measuring cups and spoons
• Mixing spoons
• Rolling pin
• knife
• 2 9x5 loaf pans
