Join Miami-Dade County Poet Laureate Caridad Moro-Gronlier and poet Mia Leonin for a unique community writing experience that celebrates the power of memory, storytelling, and intergenerational connection. This program is made possible by the generous support of the Academy of American Poets and the Mellon Foundation. For more information, please contact the branch at 305-931-5512 or lefrakp@mdpls.org. Ages 13 yrs.+
In this free workshop, participants will explore the bio poem—a simple but profound poetic form used to honor a person who shaped their life, whether a grandparent, child, mentor, or friend. Using guided prompts, shared reflections, and creative writing tools, each attendee will craft a 10-line poem that preserves legacy, emotion, and voice.
This workshop is part of Generation 305, a civic poetry initiative designed to uplift everyday stories across generations and cultural backgrounds. No prior writing experience needed—just bring a memory and an open heart.
All participants will be invited to share their poems and optionally contribute to the Generation 305 Public Archive, preserving their voice in Miami-Dade’s collective cultural record.
